For parents of Year 6 students, it’s likely been a stressful time choosing, applying for and finally finding out which secondary school their children will be going to in September.
Their young people will have been through some big emotions during this process and, as the summer approaches, are likely to be feeling some worries and anxieties about leaving their familiar primary school and friends and starting somewhere new and unknown.
Many parents and carers would welcome a little help on how to support their children through this stage!
The Soulscape team is very happy to help. Through Mind the Gap, we support thousands of Year 6 students through the transition every year, and for several years we’ve run very well-received workshops for parents and carers too, sharing expert advice and answering burning questions.
“Thank you for running such an informative session. Katie was excellent and made us realise that our son’s anxiety is perfectly normal. With the tools provided we feel much better equipped to help him through this time.”

Meanwhile, in schools this term…
Mind the Gap is already underway – we’re running workshops with Year 6 students at 15 local primary schools, playing games and talking all about what it’ll be like to start secondary school.
Later in June, our team will meet most of these young people again at their secondary school induction days, where we run some fun sessions to help them get to know their new classmates, their new school building, and think about how they’ll help one another settle in when September comes around.
