Our mental health project is back, right on time

Despite the sheer quantity of ways that one could begin this article, it’s perhaps more representative of, here at Soulscape, our sentiments on the matter and our general ethos as a whole to put it bluntly: Being a young person in 21st century society is absolutely, overwhelmingly, and unapologetically terrifying. And yet, we are so woefully ill-equipped to providing teenagers and young adults with the skills and coping mechanisms desperately needed to navigate a world as daunting as the one that they’re subjected to living in. Mental health services are collapsing, providers of mental health care are widely understaffed, the system is inundated with increasing numbers and decreasing funds. Soulscape has almost doubled in size this year, thanks to the addition of our four brilliant interns. We are delighted to welcome Evanna, Megan, Niastra and Isaac who join us for this academic year. They bring a whole new energy to our team, and generously share with us their skills and talents. Evanna, Megan and Isaac all have a special interest in theatre, and are currently in rehearsal for performances of 'Object' in schools. Megan's passion is music. She is currently researching for our young people's mental health project Inside Out, and considering what part music might play in this.        

Made In Our Image, our evening of debate, discussion and performance on the subjects of body-image, pornography and young people, took place earlier this year (2016). Now that the dust has settled we evaluate the evening and ask ourselves, 'what did we all learn?' I'm just off to an event about - erm - porn. Where? Oh - erm - in a church. Given the sort of explanations they might have found themselves giving, we were enormously encouraged by the number of people (over 150 of them) who attended Made In Our Image. Encouraged because they illustrated just how much this community cares about young people in and around Wokingham. This audience was  prepared to give up a Friday evening to tackle difficult issues [...]
