Over 1000 children from across the Wokingham area have been part of our Mind thGap project, helping children transition from primary to secondary school.
With a superb volunteer team of around 30 people from across different churches, we’ve explored the fears and hopes of the coming school year. Children arriving at Edgebarrow, Emmbrook, Forest, Holt and St Crispin’s in September met the Soulscape team at their induction days. We ran workshops for whole year groups to help children make new friends and explore the challenges of their new environment. And at St Crispin’s the team journeyed with every child through all of their induction programme.
With around 150 year 6 children from St Paul’s, Hawthorns, Emmbrook, Westende, and Winnersh Primary schools we ran lunchtime clubs over two weeks towards the end of the Summer term. A number of year 7 and 11 pupils joined the Soulscape team for those clubs, sharing their experiences and strategies for making transition work. The clubs help children improve their emotional literacy by helping them express their fears and finding ways to work through them in a positive way.
Feedback from staff and pupils has been fantastic.
As a school we have been extremely impressed with the support offered by Soulscape. We are in no doubt that the transition from Primary to Secondary is made less stressful by the constant care and attention to every single individual both before and after the students come to St Crispin’s. The commitment shown is second to none.
