£5 Live!

2024-10-17T09:52:18+00:00News|

A new plastic £5 note will soon be making its way to a pocket near you. Whether you love them or loathe them, pretty soon you won't be able to ignore them. And when you get one, what will you do with it? After you've tried chewing it to see whether it really is indestructible, marvelled at your hand through it, and played with the Big Ben hologram - please may we invite you to do something really worthwhile, and donate it - to Soulscape? And if you do - (thank you very much!) - please would you tweet or post on Facebook to let everyone else know what a great idea this is? After all, what better way to celebrate [...]

Just five minutes.

Just five minutes into day 1 of PAUSE, and we are witnessing special moments in the lives of young people. Our 'Letting Go' zone has connected with young people powerfully this year.  Letting Go: 'Take a stone. Bring to mind something that is weighing you down. Hold it in your hand for a moment, and then - let it go.' A volunteer explains: 'Almost immediately there was a young person obviously upset. I was able to chat with them quietly and share the moment. Watching them let go of something that had evidently been a cause for distress was powerful. I was in tears too.' A teacher shares: 'I cried the first time I walked into PAUSE. I tell the young people there's no shame in [...]

and breathe…

Over 10 volunteers and 30 man and woman hours this week have transformed this classroom. PAUSE is peace, time out, a much needed opportunity for reflection. 'A lie-in for my mind during school time,' as one yr 8 pupil so beautifully put it today.    Hardworking volunteers, all of you, you know who you are. Thank you. As you take a breather after your amazing transformation, you should know that your efforts are providing young people with a chance to breathe and take stock of their lives. We're hearing meaningful comments from young people themselves, and their teachers, about the importance of this time.

splash the cash? or manage the flow?

Tim volunteers for Soulscape. He's great at setting up PAUSE, but he also has specialist skills.  So this year we recommended him for something a bit different in school. '42% of young people couldn’t decipher credit/overdrawn on a bank account statement.' 2013 survey. Tim understands money. Money problems can be a major source of adult depression. When it all goes wrong; when the bills start to mount and account charges spiral out of control, finance can become a living nightmare. It is vital that young people learn to manage money well so they can save, plan, assess risk and make informed decisions. It can mean the difference between a life of debt and a life free from debt. Don't young people learn about finance at school? From September 2014 it was [...]
