What is CAKE? CAKE is Care And Kindness in Education Teachers spend a lot of time with our young people and are often under a lot of pressure in their role. Food is something that brings people together and on cake day in schools, staff enjoy gathering together in the staff room. Our teams of bakers produce wonderful homemade bakes to deliver to the schools. A practical way to show kindness, letting staff know they are appreciated! How to get involved: We are always looking for volunteers to support the work Soulscape does. Whether it be as a baker or perhaps as part of a team running various projects in school. More Inside Out

2024-10-17T09:52:03+00:00Projects|

What is More Inside Out? More Inside Out was created to support young people, focusing on their well-being and enabling them to express themselves through art without necessarily having to find the words. The thinking behind this, and indeed evidence-based research supports, is that Art is widely recognised as a therapeutic process across a range of mental health needs as well as a means of building a sense of community. In a recent Good Childhood report the focus was around young people’s fear of failure. Art activities, where you don’t have to be great at it and can have fun is a wonderful retort to fear of failure. How does More Inside Out work? The aim is to work [...]

Mentoring

2024-10-17T09:52:09+00:00Projects|

What is mentoring? Soulscape’s volunteer mentors work with students in primary and secondary schools. It’s an opportunity for young people to be supported one-on-one, prioritise their mental wellbeing and personal development, and talk through whatever is on their mind before it becomes a bigger problem. How does our mentoring work? The schools identify students who they think will benefit most from this individual support. Soulscape works alongside the schools to match students up with the most suitable mentor for them. We aim for students to meet with their Soulscape mentor once a week during the school day for a whole academic year. “Mentoring young people has been an extremely rewarding experience, I have learnt much from my mentees [...]

Object

2024-10-17T09:52:09+00:00Projects|

‘Pornography is having an increasing impact on the lives of young people. Not just young men but women as well.’ – Headteacher, The Holt School. What is Object? Object is a theatre presentation and workshop that explores some of the issues around pornography. It was inspired directly by discussions, feedback and concerns young people had raised during Soulscape REAL lessons. Young people say that pornography is an aspect of modern life that affects their lives and challenges the quality of their relationships. It’s not an easy topic to step into, but we felt convicted to respond. How does Object work? The Object performance and workshop lasts around one hour, has minimal set-up requirements and can be presented easily in a [...]

Fuse

2024-10-17T09:52:10+00:00Projects|

What is Fuse? Fuse is all about being part of a community. It's a project for Year 5 and up, where we explore what it means to be kind to and care for ourselves and others within a community. How does Fuse work? Fuse usually involves two workshops for each class. Things we think about include: what drags us down and what lifts us up. Listening to one another. Being kind to ourselves and others, and how acts of kindness affect the way we feel about ourselves. We discuss the decisions we make, the consequences of those decisions and the impact our choices and actions have on those around us, both positive and negative. We explore the responsibilities of [...]

The Lounge

2024-10-17T09:52:10+00:00Projects|

What is The Lounge? The Lounge is a space within school to “come as you are” and step away from the pressure. The Lounge is run by our trained volunteers and Soulscape staff, who are on hand to chat with any student who wants to talk. It’s a space to share what’s on your mind, process what you’re feeling, or just to take some time out from the pressure and relax. “Thank you for just listening to me” What’s different about The Lounge? We don’t come into a school and tell young people what they need. The Lounge is created for young people, by young people. When we launch The Lounge, we first spend a week discussing the idea [...]

‘It meant I wasn’t on my own.’ What is Mind The Gap? Mind The Gap is a Soulscape project designed to help young people make a happy and successful transition from primary to secondary school. Over eight years, Mind The Gap has provided support for thousands of young people – through this project, we have now worked with almost all of the current secondary school students in Wokingham Town and more in the wider area. How does Mind The Gap work? Soulscape trains and equips teams of volunteers to visit year 6 pupils at primary school during their last Summer term. Volunteers lead workshops and group activities, get to know pupils and help them to understand and prepare for the changes [...]

Inside Out

2024-10-17T09:52:12+00:00Projects|

What is Inside Out? Inside Out is Soulscape’s creative arts mental health project for young people. It was first commissioned by Bracknell Council in 2016. It aims to give young people a greater awareness of mental health and provides them with an enjoyable opportunity to express themselves through professionally-led creative art sessions. 'I don’t want today to finish.' How does Inside Out work? Part one is an introduction to mental health. It lasts around one hour and takes place in a classroom. Through games and exercises, young people identify positives and negatives that affect the way they feel inside, and begin to recognise that although people may look happy on the outside, they may be hiding a completely different [...]

A local professional artist is helping Soulscape to deliver the CARE project. The students create individual pieces of art, enabling them [...]
