Year 7, here they come

2022-02-14T14:26:06+00:00Articles, News|

With a new Year 7 cohort safely settled into secondary school, Soulscape's Michelle McLeish reflects on this year's Mind the Gap project. Mind the Gap remains one of my favourite projects. It’s a project that is easy to get involved with and really valued by students and staff. We've had to adapt Mind the Gap over the past two years thanks to the pandemic. But we're so grateful that it's gone ahead! Last year, I delivered all our Year 6 workshops by videolink. This year we got to do them in person again, but 2021 was still a little different. "Mind the Gap explained lots of things to us about secondary school and they eased my worries. I am looking [...]

enquire today Why get behind Soulscape? Soulscape is the charity that has contact with almost every family in Wokingham. We work with every secondary school in Wokingham Town, and more nearby. Giving our young people space to explore issues around mental health, relationships and sex, peer pressure and drugs – that’s a cause that all of your colleagues and clients can get behind. As a local business, we know you care about the young people of Wokingham and Bracknell. They’re your staff’s kids, nephews and nieces, and your future colleagues. You read stories in the news about the pressures that young people face today, and perhaps worry about someone you know or the effects on the community. [...]

Fundraise for Us

2021-05-28T10:01:38+00:00Get Involved|

Fundraising changes everything Schools across Berkshire really value what we’re doing and are constantly asking us to come in and run our programmes – but we can’t say ‘yes’ unless we have the funds. Fundraising is the key. Your fundraising could enable us to go into another Berkshire school and bring a creative workshop on mental health, identity or relationships to a new group of young people under pressure. Whether you are itching to run a marathon, or fancy doing a car wash with your kids, there are loads of ways you can raise funds for Soulscape’s work. Volunteer with Soulscape

2022-01-28T11:04:59+00:00Get Involved|

To work with thousands of young people in schools every year, Soulscape relies on a big team of volunteers. These great people come from all walks and stages of life. There are grandparents, students, professionals, parents, musicians, bakers, all sorts – and that’s the way we like it! We always need more hands on deck, so if you want to be part of something amazing, please join us! If you’d like to join the team next year… We’re looking for a Fundraiser to work 1-2 days per week helping organise and run events to raise vital funds for Soulscape’s work. If events are your thing, please see the role description below and get in touch. Fundraiser role description [...]

Pornography and sexual harassment in schools

2022-03-03T11:39:59+00:00Articles, News|

There's been a lot of news coverage recently about sexual harassment experienced by young people, from young people, at school. Thousands of stories have been shared online that make shocking reading and have sparked fresh debate about sex and relationships education. We run REAL workshops with Year 9 students across the Wokingham area. One of our workshops is a safe space to discuss relationships, including sexting and what good boundaries might look like in a relationship. We believe it's so important to have open conversations about this that really make young people think and grow in self-confidence. "Boys have constantly asked my friends and I for nudes, and some have sent them as the boys have repetitively asked for [...]

Mentoring

2023-01-27T11:20:56+00:00Projects|

What is mentoring? Soulscape’s volunteer mentors work with students in primary and secondary schools. It’s an opportunity for young people to be supported one-on-one, prioritise their mental wellbeing and personal development, and talk through whatever is on their mind before it becomes a bigger problem. How does our mentoring work? The schools identify students who they think will benefit most from this individual support. Soulscape works alongside the schools to match students up with the most suitable mentor for them. We aim for students to meet with their Soulscape mentor once a week during the school day for a whole academic year. “Mentoring young people has been an extremely rewarding experience, I have learnt much from my mentees [...]

Object

2022-07-11T10:50:16+00:00Projects|

‘Pornography is having an increasing impact on the lives of young people. Not just young men but women as well.’ – Headteacher, The Holt School. What is Object? Object is a theatre presentation and workshop that explores some of the issues around pornography. It was inspired directly by discussions, feedback and concerns young people had raised during Soulscape REAL lessons. Young people say that pornography is an aspect of modern life that affects their lives and challenges the quality of their relationships. It’s not an easy topic to step into, but we felt convicted to respond. How does Object work? The Object performance and workshop lasts around one hour, has minimal set-up requirements and can be presented easily in a [...]

Fuse

2022-02-08T10:30:09+00:00Projects|

What is Fuse? Fuse is all about being part of a community. It's a project for Year 5 and up, where we explore what it means to be kind to and care for ourselves and others within a community. How does Fuse work? Fuse usually involves two workshops for each class. Things we think about include: what drags us down and what lifts us up. Listening to one another. Being kind to ourselves and others, and how acts of kindness affect the way we feel about ourselves. We discuss the decisions we make, the consequences of those decisions and the impact our choices and actions have on those around us, both positive and negative. We explore the responsibilities of [...]

The Lounge

2021-06-09T10:32:51+00:00Projects|

What is The Lounge? The Lounge is a space within school to “come as you are” and step away from the pressure. The Lounge is run by our trained volunteers and Soulscape staff, who are on hand to chat with any student who wants to talk. It’s a space to share what’s on your mind, process what you’re feeling, or just to take some time out from the pressure and relax. “Thank you for just listening to me” What’s different about The Lounge? We don’t come into a school and tell young people what they need. The Lounge is created for young people, by young people. When we launch The Lounge, we first spend a week discussing the idea [...]
